Huis Neethling is divided into a male and female floor, with the men staying on the 1st floor and the ladies on the 2nd floor. Each floor is further divided into sections, of which there are nine in total. There are currently five men sections and four ladies sections, each with an allocated communal bathroom.

In order to ensure effective communication between the HK and the students, each section therefore has a section leader - usually a senior student - who is responsible for relaying important information and concerns between the residents and leadership. The section leaders also play an important role amongst the students in their sections, as they will provide friendship-based mentoring  and appropriate guidance.

Each section is named after one of Huis Neethling's 9 values, which are Accountability, Ambition, Empathy, Fellowship, Humility, Integrity, Loyalty, Optimism and Respect.

Each section has its own identity defined by the students staying in it. Students are given the opportunity to decorate their passage and their bathroom according to a theme. This serves as a way for students to express themselves within the house.

Throughout the year the sections will compete against each other in various activities to promote house morale and to encourage interaction amongst students. Examples of such activities include Masterwave cook-off, Hunger games, Board game night, Quiz night, Inblynaweek, Amazing Race: Stellenbosch Edition etc.
